Letter to the Community from the Executive DirectorJune 3, 2014
To our Partners and the Community,
The Freddie Mac Foundation is concluding its wind down and will no longer operate as of year-end 2014.
Though we are closing our doors, we know that our legacy lives on through the children and families whose futures we've changed and the incredible work of our many partners. Whether it was finding an adoptive home for a child with severe disabilities – housing a homeless family and enabling them to thrive – or helping a young person beat the odds and make it to college – we could not have done it alone. Because of the work of our partners over the past 23 years, we have built a legacy we are proud of.
We will continue to provide support for our grantees and the community even after the Foundation ends:
We awarded Foundation grantees transition funding for up to three years – the majority of which will be administered by the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.
Select grantees will be able to apply for capacity building funding through the Children and Family Capacity Building Initiative that the Meyer Foundation will administer. This program will help targeted grantees strengthen their leadership and fundraising capacity.
Through the Fund for Children, Youth and Families, any nonprofit meeting one of our seven outcomes can apply for grants available in 2016 from the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. This fund will be upwards of $10 million. Please note application information will not be available on the Community Foundation's website until later in 2015.
Our Wednesday's Child adoption program will continue as a program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and our Heart Gallery will be run by Adoptions Together (funding for both programs provided through year-end 2015).
We are grateful for the Foundation's partnerships and the impact our work, with all of you, has made for more than two decades. Thank you for all that you do to strengthen our community and make home a place where children and families thrive.
