Counties Recognize Foundation's Efforts
The Freddie Mac Foundation recently accepted recognition from the Fairfax
County and County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors for our ongoing
efforts on behalf of children and families.
In Fairfax County, the Foundation was recognized for our work to support
the Northern Virginia Healthy
Families programs, which help first-time parents nurture their young
children, and preventing child abuse and neglect in metropolitan Washington,
DC.
Since 1993, the Foundation has contributed to the growth of Healthy Families
Fairfax and the formation of a coalition of Healthy Families programs
in Northern Virginia. In addition, we have hosted the Celebration for
Success, an event to recognize families who have successfully completed
five years of participation in the program, thereby improving their lives
and the lives of their children.
There are currently 10 Healthy Families sites throughout the Washington
metropolitan area, one in every county, serving more than 2,300 families.
In Los Angeles, the Foundation together with KTTV Fox News Anchor Christine
Devine were recognized for our commitment to foster children through Wednesday's
Child, a television program that helps place foster children in
permanent homes.
Wednesday's Child-Los Angeles, launched in July 2000, is a partnership
of the Foundation, KTTV Fox 11, and the Los Angeles County Department
of Children and Family Services.
The Wednesday's Child program started in the Washington, DC metropolitan
area in 1992, as a partnership with NBC-4 and the Council of Governments.
Its phenomenal success there encouraged the Freddie Mac Foundation to
expand the program nationwide.
