Foster Children Enjoy a Day at the Big Apple Circus
October 19, 2004 The Freddie Mac Foundation recently
took 1,000 local Washington, DC foster children and their foster
families to the Big Apple Circus, New York's original one-ring,
not-for-profit circus. Taking foster children and their families
to the circus is one way that the Foundation is working to brighten
the lives of these children and supporting foster families.
Thirteen-year-old Makenzie Snyder, who at seven founded Children
to Children, an organization that provides duffel bags and stuffed
animals to foster children, joined Freddie Mac Foundation's Foster
Care and Adoption Manager Renette Oklewicz in welcoming the Foundation's
guests to the circus.
"At the Freddie Mac Foundation, we share the Big Apple Circus'
commitment to children and families. And we've invited some very
special children and families to be our guests today. These families
are special because they have learned that you don't have to be
connected by birth to be a family," said Oklewicz.
The Foundation will also be inviting 500 New York City foster children
and their families and Atlanta 500 foster children and their families
to Big Apple Circus performances in these cities.
