June 1, 2005 – The Freddie Mac Foundation is donating 50 tickets
to each Washington Nationals home game to needy DC children. At a recent weekly
briefing, Mayor Anthony A. Williams announced the Foundation's donation. Maxine
B. Baker, President and CEO of the Freddie Mac Foundation, made the presentation
to the Mayor and to a number of children assembled at the briefing.
"We've always said that bringing baseball to our city was about
more than just dollars and cents," said Mayor Williams. "It's
about community; it's about people talking to one another on the Metro
about how the team's doing; it's about spreading benefits across
the city so that kids who might not otherwise be able to do so can see a game.
We greatly appreciate this generous donation by a terrific corporate citizen
– the Freddie Mac Foundation. This donation will help to make Washington Nationals
baseball games accessible to more children in our city."
The Mayor's office and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation will
distribute the tickets with the help of community-based organizations such as
the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"The Freddie Mac Foundation is part of the home team. A day at the ballpark
for our region's children in need will be inspiring and fun. That's why
we are pleased to help more children experience the joy of baseball through
the Nationals. If in the process, we also help them to see a world of possibilities,
we have been successful," said Baker.
