Children’s Hospital Receives Support for Abused Children
June 4, 2005 – Over the past year, Children’s Hospital
has received grants totaling $200,000 from the Freddie Mac Foundation to continue
to provide aid to abused and neglected children at the Freddie Mac Foundation
Child and Adolescent Protection Center (CAP-Center). This support was recognized
during WUSA Channel 9’s Miracle Network telethon in Washington, DC where
Freddie Mac and Foundation volunteers worked the phone banks.
The CAP-Center at Children's Hospital offers services to children, and adolescents
who have been abused or neglected as well as to their families and communities,
including:
Crisis Intervention
Forensic Medical Exams
Specialized Mental Health Services
Case Management
Psychological Testing
Victims of Crime Assistance Program (funded by the Department of Justice)
PACE: Help for Parents
Educational programs and seminars for physicians, social workers, psychologists, police, child protective services workers, teachers and other professionals that work with children and their families
Community based parenting education programs
Services are also available for children and adolescents that are at risk for
victimization. Programs are designed to educate families and communities to
recognize the signs of child abuse, learn about medical exams conducted on abused
children and adolescents and treatment of juvenile sex offenders and their families,
and other topics regarding abuse and neglect in communities.
