Foundation Sponsors Webinar Turbulent Times: Money, Housing and Working Families
The Freddie Mac Foundation joined the Journalism Center on Children & Families to host an online seminar to help journalists identify trends, research and story ideas on how economic downturns and housing decisions impact family well-being.
Presenter Jared Bernstein, director, Living Standards program, Economic Policy Institute discussed the pressure points on family budgets and explained how recent business cycles have both benefited families, and left them vulnerable. Bernstein is the author of the new book, "Crunch: Why Do I Feel So Squeezed? (And Other Unsolved Economic Mysteries)" and the co-author of the ongoing series, "The State of Working America."
Sandra Newman, director and professor of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies followed with new research findings on how housing choices affect children and families. Newman has done extensive, interdisciplinary research on the intersection of housing, employment, welfare and health.
