FOUNDATION INVESTS $140,000

Foundation Invests $140,000 to Improve the Lives of Children and Families in Fairfax County, VA in 1st Half 2008

The Foundation, which is dedicated to making home a place where families and children thrive, approved five grants benefiting Fairfax County during the first six months of 2008. The Foundation focuses its investing in primarily three areas: Stable Homes/Stable Families, Foster Care and Adoption, and Academic and Career Success.

Organizations serving Fairfax County that received grants between January and June 2008 included:

Falls Church – McLean Children's Center received $25,000.00 to support early childhood development and early identification and intervention services for low-income children in Northern Virginia.

Korean American Family Counseling Center received $15,000.00 to educate and empower Korean at-risk children and youth and their parents in the Washington metropolitan region through individual and family counseling, active parenting workshops and a mentoring program for youth.

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) received $25,000.00 to provide Multicultural Family Counseling to Improve Learning and Development.

SCAN of Northern Virginia received $25,000.00 to support the parent and public education programs and Court Appointed Advocate program to prevent child abuse and neglect in Northern Virginia.

The Reading Connection received $50,000.00 to provide the Read A Loud program and additional literacy services to homeless families, working in partnership with 14 homeless organizations in the Washington metropolitan area.
