The Foundation, which is dedicated to making home a place where families and children thrive, approved nine grants benefiting Montgomery County during the first six months of 2008. The Foundation focuses its investing in primarily three areas: Stable Homes/Stable Families, Foster Care and Adoption, and Academic and Career Success.
Organizations serving Montgomery County that received grants between January and June 2008 included:
Advocates for Children and Youth received $65,000.00 to support the foster care and adoption efforts of this statewide child advocacy organization in an effort to improve outcomes for children in the Maryland foster care system.
Advocates for Children and Youth received $50,000.00 to support the efforts of this statewide, independent child advocacy organization to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families throughout Maryland.
Community Bridges received $12,500.00 to empower girls in Montgomery County, MD to become excellent students, positive young leaders and healthy young women.
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Montgomery County, MD received $20,000.00 to provide trained and supervised volunteers who advocate for the best interests and permanency for foster children in Montgomery County, MD.
Home Builders Care Foundation received $25,000.00 to support construction related projects for agencies serving homeless and other at-risk families in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Korean American Family Counseling Center received $15,000.00 to educate and empower Korean at-risk children and youth and their parents in the Washington metropolitan region through individual and family counseling, active parenting workshops and a mentoring program for youth.
La Clinica del Pueblo received $12,500.00 to provide comprehensive mental health services to 80 vulnerable children, youth and their families in the District of Columbia.
National Center for Children and Families received $50,000.00 to provide transitional housing and social support services to homeless families in Montgomery County, MD.
Providence Hospital received $10,000.00 to provide parent support groups in the District of Columbia to enhance prenatal and infant outcomes for vulnerable families.
