The Foundation, which is dedicated to making home a place where families and children thrive, approved 10 grants benefiting Prince George’s County during the first six months of 2008. The Foundation focuses its investing in primarily three areas: Stable Homes/Stable Families, Foster Care and Adoption, and Academic and Career Success.
Organizations serving Prince George’s County that received grants between January and June 2008 included:
Advocates for Children and Youth received $65,000.00 to support the foster care and adoption efforts of this staewide child advocacy organization in an effort to improve outcomes for children in the Maryland foster care system.
Advocates for Children and Youth received $50,000.00 to support the efforts of this statewide, independent child advocacy organization to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families throughout Maryland.
College Summit, Inc. received $50,000.00 to provide 18 under resourced schools in the Washington metropolitan area with the tools, training and resources needed to ensure that 2,700 low-income students are ready to enroll in college upon high school graduation.
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/ Prince George's County, Inc. received $20,000.00 to provide trained and supervised volunteers who advocate for the best interests and permanent placement of foster children in Prince George's County, MD.
DC Central Kitchen, Inc. received $25,000.00 to support the delivery of 115,000 meals per year to seven shelters, transitional living facilities and social service programs, which serve homeless families in the Washington metropolitan area.
Home Builders Care Foundation received $25,000.00 to support construction related projects for agencies serving homeless and other at-risk families in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
La Clinica del Pueblo received $12,500.00 to provide comprehensive mental health services to 80 vulnerable children, youth and their families in the District of Columbia.
Providence Hospital received $10,000.00 to provide parent support groups in the District of Columbia to enhance prenatal and infant outcomes for vulnerable families.
The Family Tree, Inc. received $25,000.00 to support at-risk and fragile parents and their children in Prince George's County, MD by offering a complement of home, community and hotline-based services.
The Prince George's Community Foundation received $35,000.00 to support the Partnership for Prince George's County, MD, which is focused on strengthening the nonprofit sector through a funding collaborative, networking, organizational and leadership development and building advocacy skills.
