Philanthropy Noted by MS Society

The DC Chapter of the MS Society recently named Freddie Mac as “Corporation of the Year,” recognizing the company’s and the Foundation’s on-going support of children and families affected by this devastating disease.

Foundation and Manager Honored

National Capital region Healthy Families America (HFA) sites and several local politicians recently honored Foundation grant manager Renette Oklewicz and the Foundation for leadership in developing 10 local HFA sites that are helping more than 1,400 families build parenting skills.

Foundation Celebrates Adoption Month

The Foundation joined leaders of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption to celebrate National Adoption Month by recognizing singer Steven Curtis Chapman for his strong personal commitment to adoption. An adoptive father, Chapman has created a foundation called Shaohannah’s Hope to help more people adopt. The Foundation is also sponsoring the second annual National Adoption Day on November 17 when thousands of adoptions around the nation will be finalized.

Foundation Sponsors Comedy Concert

The Foundation sponsored the Comedy Concert for Children's Hospital at the Warner Theater on Monday, November 5. The event showcased comedians Mike Birbiglia, Rene Hicks, Brett Leake, Jim Morris and Bob Somerby.

10th Year Marked by Continued Community Support

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Freddie Mac Foundation awarded grants totaling nearly $2 million during the second quarter of 2000, supporting innovative programs that strengthen communities by strengthening families. Employees Make Olympics Special

Mac employee volunteers "buddied up" with local athletes participating in this year's Northern Virginia Special Olympics. More than 300 young athletes came from special education programs throughout Northern Virginia to compete in a host of track and field events. For the twelfth year in a row, Freddie Mac was a leading sponsor of the event providing leadership, funding and volunteer support.

Foundation Leads Safe Crib Campaign

The Freddie Mac Foundation and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have teamed up to help parents make their child’s first home a safe one through the Safe Cribs for Kids Campaign. The Foundation has committed to donate more than 1,000 new, safe cribs to parents in the Washington, DC area who need them, along with parenting information. The CPSC is ensuring that families receive important crib safety information with their new cribs. Details

Foundation and Coach Gibbs Join to Help Teens

As part of its work to open the doors for hope and opportunity for children, the Freddie Mac Foundation announced a $1 million grant to help expand Youth for Tomorrow, a successful residential program for troubled teenage boys founded by former Washington Redskins Head Coach Joe Gibbs in 1986.
