3,000 Adoptions Finalized During Foundation-Sponsored Adoption Day

Courtrooms all over the country opened their doors on National Adoption Day to finalize more than 3,000 adoptions of children in foster care – doubling last year's record setting mark. Foundation Funds New Youth for Tomorrow Facility

The Freddie Mac Foundation recently joined the nonprofit organization Youth for Tomorrow (YFT) in the dedication of its new academic/physical fitness facility. The building was in part made possible by a $1 million donation from the Foundation. Baker Honored as a Champion of Children

Freddie Mac Foundation President and CEO Maxine Baker was honored as a Champion of Children by the National Children's Alliance (NCA) and Safe Shores — the D.C. Children's Advocacy Center. Baker was one of four honorees at the 3rd Annual Champions of Children Dinner that recognizes individual's work to decrease child abuse and neglect. Field Day Celebrates Elementary Students' Academic Success

For the seventh year in a row, more than 500 elementary school students from J.C. Nalle Community School—one of the Foundation's signature programs—enjoyed a fun-filled Field Day to celebrate and reward their academic success. Freddie Mac employees took time from work to help out with the event, which included a Ferris wheel, rock climbing wall, moon bounce, face painting, ice cream truck and much more.

Foundation, Council of Governments Honor Foster Parents

To recognize and celebrate those who provide nurturing and guidance to the 6,000 Washington area children in foster care, the Freddie Mac Foundation together with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments presented a gala evening of awards, dinner and entertainment on May 31. »More Information.

Foundation Creates Emergency Fund

The Freddie Mac Foundation has announced the creation of the Helping Hand Emergency Fund. Helping Hand is a $2 million emergency fund to help support nonprofit programs which the Foundation now funds in the Washington metropolitan area, that have been negatively impacted by the current economic downturn. The fund is designed to help address the budget shortfall that many nonprofits are experiencing. To qualify for funding, organizations must have programs or services that have been supported by a Freddie Mac Foundation grant in both 2001 and 2002 and meet other eligibility requirements. Applications for emergency grants must be received by the Freddie Mac Foundation by 5:00 p.m. on July 2, 2003. »More Information.

Freddie Mac Honored by Washington Business Journal

Freddie Mac was named one of the top corporate philanthropists in the Washington, DC region by the Washington Business Journal. Freddie Mac and the Freddie Mac Foundation invested more than $32 million in the Washington, D.C. region and nationwide in 2002. Total giving since 1991 is $165 million.

Stronger Families Campaign Airs

The Freddie Mac Foundation recently teamed up with W*USA 9 NEWS to provide parents with valuable parenting information. The Stronger Families... Stronger Communities campaign was a response to the growing number of child abuse and neglect cases in our nation. A key to prevention is giving parents the resources they need to help them nurture their children. Throughout April, W*USA 9 broadcast parenting tips, news stories on programs that help families, and our 1 888 number for viewers to request free parenting kits — in English or Spanish. » Parenting Resources
