STARS in the Arts

One of the Freddie Mac Foundation's regional efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect is our support of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia (PCA Georgia), a grantee of the Foundation and Georgia's only nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of child abuse. Tracy Mooney, A Freddie Mac vice president and a Foundation board member, also serves as an active member of the board of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia.

Annually, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia holds its STARS in the Arts event to present the entertainment industry, the corporate community, and individual patrons of the arts with an opportunity to address the problem of child abuse in a creative and pro-active way. Speaking at the event, Tracy highlighted the Foundation's support of PCA Georgia, and the work they're doing through the 23 Healthy Families America sites in the state, providing intensive and long-term support to overburdened families right in their own homes. "By working together, we are doing something about child abuse and neglect," she told attendees. "Through your support of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and their Healthy Families program, you are helping give a child that most precious of gifts—a home where they are safe, cared for and loved."

Healthy Families Georgia teaches positive parenting practices before harmful behaviors are established. Overburdened families of newborns are offered home visitation services, which focus on promoting healthy childhood growth and development. The services can continue for up to five years.
